Every form of communication has its own norms for how people are expected to use them. While use of social media platforms represent the modern way to communicate, not everyone plays nice. Sometimes we need a reminder that the digital world and “real” world is one and the same. There are real people behind those screen names, real names, and avatars. With technology moving so fast, it’s only a matter of time until we no longer differentiate between these worlds but in the meantime, why not begin with the basic rules of socializing etiquette that children learn in kindergarten.
- Everyone is here to play with the same toys
- Consider those around you
- Share things that are exciting, interesting, funny, and entertaining
- Play nice
- Tell the truth or suffer the consequences
- Say you’re sorry when you hurt somebody
- Learn from your friends
- Learn from your friends’ friends
- When you talk/write/express yourself, make sure others can understand you
- Ask permission
- Word of mouth can go a long way
- Give and don’t automatically expect something in return
- Accept that not everyone wants to play with you
- Don’t take things that aren’t yours
- Think before speaking
- Watch out for bullies and liars
- Stay balanced

Awesome list!!! Especially to look out for bullies and liars!
Number of people who don’t have these basic etiquette are keep on increasing in internet world. That because they are not talking the person personally it’s easy for them to make lies. Beware these kind of people! 🙂
Anyways, thank you for sharing this list, it’s like a principles we should apply in our life!
Very nice post! The list of socializing etiquette that children learned in kindergarten can also be applied in our daily living. We cannot avoid that others will make things that are unethical and sometimes will hurt us. All we need to do is to ignore them and stay focus on what is right.
Staying honest is the biggest part of success in social media.
I remember when Microsoft tried to do a campaign on Reddit and there was a massive backlash against them. Perfect example of how to NOT to do social media.
You have to think.. how can I convince someone to look at my business or product and be a long term customer? Cheating, lying, and manipulating is for temporary results at best.
So true, I like your etiquette list.
Simple etiquette even children understand the meaning. And yet, there are some didn’t
understand this simple etiquette… Just to make it simple and short..RESPECT other… great post!
